SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Dakota News Now) – Dozens of people from across Sioux Falls and the surrounding area came out on Monday to attend Katherine Frank’s funeral, but also to support her from the sidelines during the motorcade processions.

People wore T-shirts in her honor, with one man even bringing his own flag to show his respect.

“Just wanted to come out and pay my respects for a fallen soldier, a fallen lady, and just wanted to let her know that we’re all thinking about her and her family,” said Tony Brende, an Army veteran.

Brende also said he experienced loss in the military police, but it never gets easier when another officer falls, especially one as young as Katherine Frank.

“She needs to be known. Her name needs to be out there, and we just appreciate her,” said Brende.

One couple came to pay their respects and said watching the motorcades was emotional, but they’re grateful that Sioux Falls is celebrating Frank’s legacy as much as possible.

“I think we live in a great world, and that tragedy happens. All the police officers following in line and doing the respect to a fellow officer as they’re taken to be laid in place and their final resting spot. It’s rather touching,” said Greg and Karla Eastman, Sioux Falls residents.

A woman who wanted to remain off-camera said she spent the whole weekend creating a flag memorial for Frank. When asked why, she said it was simply the right thing to do and her way to contribute.

While Deputy Frank’s funeral was somber, many people were moved by both the law enforcement agencies that came from all over to support and the people who came to support on the sidewalks.
